Pre-viewing (5 minutes)

 

The instructor will first talk to the students about her shoes, where she bought them and why she likes them, then she will ask the students about their shoes.

 

The instructor will ask students about the reasons why they like their shoes, and will also ask them where they bought their shoes; if they buy shoes from a big store or a small store.

 

Then, she will tell the students that she bought her shoes from a small store in Colombia, her country of origin, and that the small business is owned by a family, and she will ask the students if they know any small family businesses in their towns.

 

Instructor’s Script:

Estos zapatos me gustan mucho. Son mis zapatos favoritos. Los compré en Colombia y me gustan porque son grandes y negros, el negro es mi color favorito, como lo pueden notar.

Estudiante, ¿cuéntame dónde compraste esos zapatos? ¿Qué bien, y por qué te gustan?

Y tú (otro estudiante), ¿por qué te gustan tus zapatos? ¿Y dónde los compraste?

Estudiante, ¿dónde te gusta comprar ropa? ¿En tiendas grandes o en tiendas pequeñas? ¿Por qué?

Bien, les cuento que yo compré mis zapatos en una tienda pequeña, en una tienda de emprendedores. Los emprendedores son familias que tienen su propio negocio, su propia tienda pequeña.

¿Conocen tiendas pequeñas de familia en sus ciudades? ¿Les gusta comprar en tiendas pequeñas de familia? ¿Por qué? ¡A mí me gusta porque hay ropa única!

 

 

As we watch (15 Minutes)

 

The instructor will tell the students about Colombia-Moda, a big fashion event in Colombia.

She will tell them that they have designers from all over the world going to the event and presenting their designs, and that it is a really big opportunity for the Colombian business and designers to stand out and grow their business.

The instructor will tell the students that they are going to watch a video about this event and what one can find there.

The instructor will write the comprehensive questions: “Where do you like to buy clothes? In big stores or in small stores? Do you know any small family businesses in your cities? Do you like to shop in small family businesses?" on the board and will read them with the students to see if they have any questions about the vocabulary. Then the students will see the video for the first time and check if they have any questions.

Then, the instructor will give them a handout where they will find adjectives, and tell them they will watch the video to circle the adjectives they hear in it. Almost all of them are in the video, but there are two adjectives that are not, so they will have to listen carefully to highlight the ones that are in the video.

The instructor will play the video the first time and then she will make comprehension questions to see if the students got an idea of what the video is about. 

Then, the teacher will remind the students to read carefully the adjectives they have on the handout and circle the ones that appear on the video. She will play the video and the students will circle the adjectives.

After that, the students will get in pairs and will compare their handouts to see if they heard the same adjectives. The instructor will ask some students about the adjectives that they circled and if they have any differences.

Lastly, the instructor will write on the board the adjectives that most of the students have circled on one side, and on the other side the adjectives that students think that are not on the video, and then, she will play the video again to confirm the adjectives that they agreed on and discard the other ones.

En Colombia tenemos un gran evento llamado Colombiamoda. Todos los mejores diseñadores asisten durante una semana a Colombia y muestran sus diseños.

Es una gran oportunidad para los emprendedores, como donde compro mis zapatos, para hacerse notar y hacer crecer su emprendimiento, o sea su pequeño negocio.

 

Ahora vamos a ver un video sobre este evento. Veamos primero estas preguntas relacionadas con el video: ¿dónde te gusta comprar ropa? ¿En tiendas grandes o en tiendas pequeñas? ¿Por qué? ¿Conocen tiendas pequeñas de familia en sus ciudades? ¿Les gusta comprar en tiendas pequeñas de familia? ¿Por qué?

 

En este handout van a encontrar muchos adjetivos, quiero que los lean y piensen en la ropa que podemos encontrar en Colombiamoda.
